Though he could be an atrocious speller (yet perfect when it came to grammar), Leif wrote quite a bit outside of work, whether in his journal or letters (later emails) to family and friends. I'm going to start by posting a few emails, which he sent to family to update us about something he'd seen (and sometimes caught on camera) or a project. I may transcribe some journal entries in the future, along with other emails. If Leif sent anything to you that you'd like to share on here, feel free to email me at [email protected]
The emails are mostly pithy and usually included a couple photos. If you knew Leif, you'll recognize his humor. (Note: if he gave the photo file a descriptive name, that will be reflected in the photo's caption.) - Mark

just playing - with the flash and with the bits dad
a follow-up email to provide details to Susan's brother David: our toad visitor. The stem to which he clings is just under 1 inch in diameter. Now this may not look like your usual yellow-billed cuckoo but ... I think as I become more skilled in my "by sound" identifying, great strides are expected. Confusing a pilliated with an osprey is now small potatoes. And there were two similar but slightly different calls (slightly different pitches) coming from the pond before the noise ceased for the night - which occurred just after I turned off the creek pump. I didn't go out to try and find the second. Must be a drag traveling cross country if you are a toad, but communicating over long travel distances - that they have mastered. |
